Get More Out Of QuickTime X [Video How-To]

When Apple released QuickTime X with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, it seemed like little more than another version of QuickTime with a new User Interface. In reality though, there are quite a few features either new to QuickTime X, or previously only available in the Professional version, that make it much more than just a media player. In this video, you’ll see how you can get more use out of QuickTime X.

Cruising In The Clouds – Video of the Week by Ryan Grassley

Tuesday May 24, 2011

Editor’s Note:
Meet Ryan Grassley; motorcycle freak, adventurer, explorer, all around good-guy. He also happens to be one badass amateur videographer!

To the best of my knowledge, he’s the first to video document the mystical moods of the Boquete Cloud Forest and it’s twisty, turny mountain passages.

I’ve been checking out his productions for a couple of months now and this guy has talent!

Ryan’s creative implementation of slow motion and dramatic soundtrack are over the top!

Check-in every week as I roll out his new productions and wipe the dust off of his past productions.

I can’t think of a better way to breathe in the raw, natural beauty of the Chiriquí highlands than riding sidekick with Ryan!

Crank up the volume, and if you have the bandwidth, click the 1080p High Definition button, then Buckle Up… you’re going on a wild ride!

Here’s Ryan’s commentary for this video:
Above the mountain village of Boquete, Panama there are some amazing twisty, steep roads. I was very lucky to not be drenched in rain while I was trying to film. I got some great footage of the clouds, roads and forest. I stopped for a while and stood in silence surrounded by a cloud and listened to the silence, mixed with birds chirping. It really is a magical place.

The music for this video was created by Scott Altham. You can hear more of his great tunes on his myspace page here. And on www.ccmixter.org here.

Another Icelandic eruption: Grimsvotn volcano

Barely a year after a similar eruption in Iceland forced the biggest closure of European airspace since World War II, the eruption of the Grimsvotn volcano, under the Vatnajokull glacier in southeast Iceland on May 21, 2011 has caused hundreds of travel delays. The ash cloud forced U.S. President Barack Obama to shorten a visit to Ireland and has raised some fears of a repeat of last year’s huge travel disruptions across Europe when emissions from Eyjafjalljokull stranded millions of passengers. Although this disruption is said to be stronger than that of Eyiafjalljokull, it is not expected to have the same impact. Take a look back at two Big Picture posts from the 2010 Icelandic volcano eruption: Iceland’s disruptive volcano and More from Eyiafjallajokull. — Paula Nelson (24 photos total)

Airlines began canceling flights to Britain because of the ash cloud from the volcano reaching its airspace, although experts expected no repeat of travel chaos from the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull a year ago.
